Philosopher’s Minimalism by Genís Carreras

Prints available at society6. Entitled “Philographics”, these minimalist geometric shapes represent various philosophical doctrines like existentialism, empiricism, nihilism, and solipsism. Several more can be seen on Carreras’ website, but spoiler alert: there appears to be no mention of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, which is just as much a code of ethics as it is a religious experience.

The Color of Sunsets by Eric Cahan

Entitled “Sky Series”, these arent paint sample gradients but actual photos taken of various sunsets and sunrises around the country. In describing his process, Eric says: “A lot of people ask me if this is all done in Photoshop. Actually, very little Photoshop is used. I will only tone photos to match the paper type and, in some cases, add a bit of color curves. The actual process is done with colored resin filters that I’ve made being placed in front of the lens. One must remember, when a colored filter is used against a blue sky, it always alters the color of the sky. You have to know the colors you are going for and then choose a filter from there. For example, if you use a yellow filter and the sky is very blue, it will turn the horizon green. This works best during sunrise and sunset. It’s a bit like capturing a shadow”.  Click on the pictures to see where and when they were taken. I honestly didnt know some of these colors existed in nature. Crayola’s 64 Box of crayons lied to me.
